Traits - Min maxing your Guild Wars 2 Profession

One of my favorite past times in an MMO is min/maxing my character.

Min-maxing is the practice of playing a role-playing game, wargame or video game with the intent of creating the "best" character by means of minimizing undesired or unimportant traits and maximizing desired ones. This is usually http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifaccomplished by improving one specific trait or ability by sacrificing ability in all other fields. This is easier to accomplish in games where attributes are generated from a certain number of points rather than in ones where they are randomly generated. Min-maxing is particularly common in games where the cost of traits does not reflect their expected usefulness; for instance, in a combat-heavy game a player may focus on physical traits, giving a character abnormally low mental and social skills so that the remaining points can all be channeled to physical statistics that are more likely to come into play.

Now we have some information on how we will bbe able to do so in Guild Wars 2 using traits and attributes.

The highlights from me from this post were:

Attributes are organised into offense, support, and profession-specific attributes.

From the perspective of a would be Guardian the following stuck me as useful.

Support - Concentration: Improves the duration of all boons applied by the character. Compassion: Improves all outgoing heals that your character does, including self heals.

Profession-Specific Attributes - Willpower (guardian) — Decreases the recharge on all virtues.

Guardian Traits:

Zeal: Power and Concentration.
Radiance: Precision and Expertise.
Valor: Toughness and Prowess.
Honor: Vitality and Compassion.
Virtues: Malice and Willpower.

From level 11 to 80, you receive one trait point per level. This means that every level 80 character will be assigning 70 points to help define their character.

Investing 5, 15, and 25 points in a single line will award the player a minor trait, which are unique bonuses that are dependent upon the number of points invested as well as the specific trait line in question. Think of these traits as a set of abilities that are designed to work well together and to help suggest a particular build or play style to the player.

Investing 10, 20, and 30 points in a single line will unlock a major trait slot for the player. Each line has 12 different major traits that may be slotted into a major trait slot. These are major upgrades to player abilities and are designed to provide a lot of customization.

In competitive PvP, you have a separately saved trait build and can respec free of charge.

Mass RvR - and other titbits

Will Guild Wars 2 brings Mass RvR.

It seems that at least it will bring 100v100v100

Arena Nets Blog does a very good job in describing it in detail.

Here are the highlights for me:

we needed to make some absolutely gigantic maps—four of them.

Each objective on a map is worth points for the team that captures it. We periodically tally the point total for each server and add that total to their War Score, which accumulates over the length of a persistent two-week battle.

If you don’t quite have the numbers to go after a keep, there are quite a few smaller towers placed around the countryside. These more modest fortificatihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifons are perfect for smaller groups to assault and defend. But just like the larger keeps, towers have their own sets of defenses you’ll have to deal with, including a compliment of NPC guards and destroyable gates and walls.

We wanted to make WvW fun and easy to get into, so there’s no level grinding required—you can just hop into the battle using your normal PvE character, regardless of what level you are.

you continue to gain experience and new items while playing in the Mists. Players you kill will drop loot for you just like slain monsters in PvE.
